Parasite Cleanses: Do You Really Need One?

Parasite cleanses seem to be everywhere lately. Scroll social media for five minutes and you'll probably hear someone claiming that everyone has parasites, that every symptom points to them, or that you should be cleansing every full moon. As an herbalist, I always encourage people to pause before jumping on the latest wellness trend. Not because herbs don't have incredible value, they absolutely do, but because I believe education should always come before supplementation. That's exactly why I created Moon Magick. Not out of fear. Not because I believe everyone is "full of parasites”, but because two herbs have been used traditionally for centuries to support digestive wellness and healthy microbial balance: black walnut and wormwood.

Why Black Walnut and Wormwood?

Herbal traditions from around the world have long incorporated black walnut and wormwood as part of digestive and seasonal wellness practices. Black walnut has historically been valued for its ability to support a healthy intestinal environment, while wormwood has been traditionally used to promote digestive function and maintain a balanced gut ecosystem. These herbs have a long history of traditional use, and modern researchers continue to study the compounds they contain. While more research is still needed, their longstanding place in herbalism is one of the reasons I chose them for Moon Magick. Rather than creating an overly complicated formula, I wanted to keep it simple and intentional. Sometimes nature already provides exactly what we're looking for.

Do I Think Everyone Needs a Parasite Cleanse?

No.

I don't believe everyone needs to assume they have parasites, and I certainly don't believe fear should be used to sell supplements. At the same time, I do believe many of us can benefit from periodically supporting our digestive health, especially if we've experienced changes in diet, travel, environmental exposures, or simply want to be more intentional about overall wellness. Moon Magick was created to support that process, not to diagnose, treat, or replace medical care. Your body is incredibly intelligent. The goal isn't to force it into doing something unnatural. The goal is to support it.

The Question I Get Asked Most: "Do I Need a Binder?"

This is probably the number one question I receive.

My answer?

For most people using Moon Magick as directed, I don't believe a binder is necessary.

Here's why.

The idea behind a binder is that it binds to certain substances in the digestive tract so they can be eliminated from the body through the stool. Depending on the situation, some practitioners choose to include binders as part of specific protocols. However, I don't believe every herbal protocol automatically requires one. Our bodies already have incredibly sophisticated detoxification systems. The liver, kidneys, digestive tract, lymphatic system, skin, and lungs work around the clock to process and eliminate waste. When those systems are supported with proper hydration, nourishing foods, movement, sleep, and healthy bowel function, they're often capable of doing exactly what they were designed to do. For most healthy adults using Moon Magick as part of a balanced wellness routine, I don't routinely recommend adding a binder.

Supporting Your Body Naturally

If you're using Moon Magick, there are a few simple habits I encourage that support overall digestive wellness.

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day, eat fiber-rich foods that support regular bowel movements, prioritize quality sleep, and continue moving your body regularly.

  • These foundational habits often have a much greater impact on long-term wellness than adding more supplements.

At Raw Awakening, I always come back to the basics first.

Why I Formulated Moon Magick

One thing you'll notice about my products is that I don't believe more ingredients automatically make a better supplement. Moon Magick contains two herbs that have stood the test of time, black walnut and wormwood. That's it. No unnecessary fillers. No trendy ingredients added simply because they're popular. Just an intentionally crafted formula inspired by traditional herbal wisdom.

Wellness Shouldn't Be Complicated

One of the biggest lessons I've learned as an herbalist is that wellness doesn't have to be overwhelming. Social media often tells us we need twenty different supplements, multiple detoxes every year, and complicated protocols just to stay healthy. I don't believe that's true. I believe in supporting the body's natural processes, choosing high-quality ingredients, and making decisions from a place of education rather than fear. That's the philosophy behind every product I create, and it's exactly why Moon Magick is part of the Raw Awakening apothecary.

A Final Thought

If you're curious about herbal support for digestive wellness or wondering whether Moon Magick is a good fit for you, I'd love to help. Every body is different, every health journey is unique, and there's no one-size-fits-all approach to wellness. My goal has never been to sell you the most supplements. My goal is to help you better understand your body, make informed decisions, and use herbs with confidence and intention.
