From Partying to Purpose: How Learning About Medicinal Cannabis Changed Everything

There was a season of my life when cannabis was simply part of the party. Like many people, I viewed it through the lens that society often presents. You smoked to relax, to escape, to fit in, or to have fun. Sometimes it helped me numb difficult emotions; sometimes it amplified them, but either way, my relationship with the plant wasn't intentional. It was reactive. For years, I blamed cannabis for experiences that, in hindsight, had much more to do with where I was mentally and emotionally than with the plant itself. The truth is, I didn't understand what I was using. As I continued my own healing journey and built Raw Awakening, I realized there was a massive difference between recreational use and therapeutic use. That curiosity led me to become certified in Medicinal Cannabis and CBD, and honestly, it changed the way I view this incredible plant forever.

The Education I Wish Everyone Had

One of the first things I learned was that cannabis isn't just "THC." In fact, the cannabis plant contains hundreds of naturally occurring compounds, including cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. Each of these compounds has unique properties and can influence how the body responds. I also learned about something most people have never even heard of: the endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system is a communication network that helps regulate many of the body's normal functions, including sleep, mood, appetite, stress response, memory, pain perception, and immune function. It exists whether you've ever used cannabis or not. Certain compounds found in cannabis, particularly cannabinoids like THC and CBD, interact with this system in different ways. That's why different products, formulations, and dosages can produce completely different experiences. Understanding that changed everything for me.

Not All Cannabis Is Created Equal

One of the biggest misconceptions I see is people talking about cannabis as though every product is identical. It's not. Different cannabinoid profiles, terpene combinations, extraction methods, delivery systems, dosages, and ratios all matter. Someone using a high-potency recreational THC product is having a very different experience than someone using a carefully selected CBD-rich tincture or a balanced medicinal formulation under professional guidance. That's why education is so important. The conversation shouldn't simply be, "Is cannabis good or bad?"

The better question is:
What are you using, why are you using it, and is it supporting your health goals?

Working With the Plant Instead of Simply Using It

For me, the biggest transformation wasn't just learning about cannabis. It was changing my relationship with it. Today, I approach cannabis the same way I approach herbal medicine, nutrition, movement, sleep, and stress management. It's one potential tool within a much larger wellness toolbox. Sometimes it may be appropriate. Sometimes another approach makes more sense. The goal is never to rely on one product to solve every problem. The goal is understanding your body well enough to make informed, intentional choices. That's a very different mindset than simply reaching for something out of habit.

Why I Offer Medicinal Cannabis Consultations

When people come to me, they're usually overwhelmed. They've heard conflicting advice online. They're confused by all the different products. They're nervous about THC. They're unsure if CBD will actually help, or they've had a negative experience in the past and assume cannabis just "isn't for them." My role isn't to convince anyone to use cannabis. My role is to educate. Together, we look at your health history, your goals, your concerns, your current medications, and your lifestyle so you can better understand whether medicinal cannabis or CBD may be an appropriate part of your wellness plan. Knowledge gives people confidence, and confidence leads to better decisions.

My Journey From Partying to Purpose

If you had told the younger version of me that I'd one day be educating others about medicinal cannabis, I probably would have laughed. Back then, cannabis was simply something I used. Today, it's something I respect. Education transformed fear into understanding, stigma into curiosity, and habit into intention. That shift didn't just change my relationship with cannabis. It changed the way I approach healing as a whole. If you're curious about medicinal cannabis, CBD, or simply want evidence-informed guidance without judgment or pressure, I'd love to help you better understand your options, because healing starts with education, and sometimes, the most powerful thing we can change isn't the plant—it's the way we choose to work with it.
